Obsidian is a local-first notes app. The official pricing page says the app is free without limits and does not require a sign-up. Sync and Publish are paid add-ons ($4 and $8 per month billed annually on the page we read). Catalyst is a $25 one-time option, and a commercial license was listed at $50 per user per year. We did not install the app.

Best for

  • Personal or team notes that live in local files
  • People who want the app itself without a subscription

Not ideal for

  • Hosted meeting transcription
  • A multiplayer wiki with no local files
